Engineering Engagement: The Back Story – Part One

Steven Spradlin, Actin Web Video

Steve Spradlin is a serial entrepreneur, having run and later sold a wireless company prior to launching Actin Web Video in 2001.

The Back Story – Part One

Steve grew up in the Appalachia region of Kentucky and, while his mom was a school principle and his dad worked in the railroad industry, Steve saw significant poverty and despair in his surrounding communities.  He considers himself privileged to have a background that gives him a firsthand appreciation of the challenges that many people face and it drove him to be successful.

Steve and his team at Ranger Wireless Solutions spent the late 1990s creating cloud-based technology solutions, including its patented database routing method for wireless calls (US Patent No. 5,946,623) which is still in use by many wireless carriers today.  After selling that off, and not quite ready to settle into early retirement yet, Steve wanted to find something that was engaging and creative and kept him intrigued.  He wanted to enjoy his work and enjoy what he created.  So he went from being an engineer to engineering engagement through his video development work.
