June 26, 2006: Milford, Massachusetts- Elaine Osgood, President of Atlas Travel International, has joined the ranks of some of the country’s top business owners. On June 15 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Osgood was named the winner of the New England Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Award in the category of Travel and Hospitality. Of the winners in thirteen different categories, Osgood was one of only two women who received the honor.
“It was exciting to see several of our customers as finalists,” said Osgood. The chief executive officers at Presstek, Inc., BTU Ventures, CMGI, Open Pages, Virtusa, Cynosure, Inc., and Palomar, all Atlas Travel International corporate customers, were honored as finalists, with BTU Ventures’ CEO Wael Al-Mazeedi also winning the prestigious EOY award in the Energy category.
Both the EOY Awards and Atlas Travel International are celebrating their 20th year, a coincidence that didn’t escape those celebrating at the Atlas table. In her acceptance speech, Osgood quickly gave credit to her team, saying “This is for all the people sitting at Table 6, the best management team in the travel industry.”
Dedication to her team and employees has always been a main priority for Osgood. Earlier this year, Atlas was named one of the best small companies to work for by Working Mother magazine. In addition, the Worcester Business Journal named Osgood one of the three 2006 Business Leaders of the Year, based on her determination and ability to successfully create and lead a company that she grew from the ground up.
Previous Entrepreneur Of The Year winners include individuals who have built some of business’ most recognizable names: Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com, Pierre Omidyar of eBay, Inc., Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google, Inc., Howard Schultz of Starbucks Corp., Catherine L. Hughes and Alfred Liggins of Radio One, and Jim McCann of 1-800-Flowers.com.
As a New England award winner, Osgood is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2006 national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California on November 18, 2006. The overall national Entrepreneur Of The Year award recipient is then considered for the world event held in Monte Carlo.
